Due to the new federal health care law (the Affordable Care Act, a/k/a Obamacare), Badgercare’s income limits will change effective 1/1/14. If you or your children receive health insurance through Badgercare, you should already have received several letters regarding these changes. You can find this information at http://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/em/CustomerHelp/bcpletters.htm The same is true of Wisconsin’s Health Insurance Risk-Sharing Plan (HIRSP) http://www.hirsp.org/. Any of my clients who are enrolled in Badgercare or HIRSP should review those letters carefully to determine if they meet the new requirements, or if they will be required to purchase health insurance under the new federal health insurance marketplace. Given the well-documented enrollment problems on the ACA website, if you may lose Badgercare or HIRSP, I strongly urge you to enroll now. Please feel free to contact me to determine how this may affect your family case.
